Law 360 (November 18, 2022, 8:13 PM EST) -- Illinois law firm Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP recently welcomed back attorney Matt Kim-Miller, who previously worked there as a real estate associate and arrives as a partner in the Chicago office after working 10 years at Holland & Hart LLP.
Kim-Miller told Law360 on Friday that he decided to come back due to his old co-workers and seeing the firm as an opportunity to develop his practice. Kim-Miller specializes in real estate transactions like joint ventures, land use, leasing and conservation easements. His clientele include those involved in the hospitality, retail and office industries.
According to Kim-Miller, his return will benefit the firm since he has previous land use and development experience from his work at Holland & Hart's office in Jackson, Wyoming. Additionally, he plans to build a land development practice at Barack Ferrazzano and will continue to build the firm's real estate practice in Chicago.
Kim-Miller said he has worked on renewable energy transactions in Wyoming, New Mexico, California and Montana. He's also worked on hotel transactions, such as the Virginian Lodge, a boutique hotel in Jackson.
"I think the collegiality and depth of commercial and industrial practice here is incredibly inviting and interesting, and you get to work on very diverse and complex transactions for a pretty special client set," Kim-Miller said. "The nimbleness of the platform, the dedication and enjoyability of working with these folks, that's the main benefit to me."
When asked how his clients reacted to his return, Kim-Miller said they were positive about the news and several of them were familiar with Barack Ferrazzano. He added that he thinks his return will allow him to expand his real estate skills for his core clients.
Jeremy T. Bunnow, co-chair of the firm's real estate practice, said the firm was looking forward
to Kim-Miller's return.
"We are delighted to welcome Matt back to the real estate group," Bunnow said in a Thursday statement. "Matt is an extremely talented practitioner and further advances the objective of the real estate group to grow through the addition of excellent and practical practitioners."
Kim-Miller received his juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2000 and received his master's degree from the university in 1997. He graduated from Grinnell College with a bachelors degree in 1994.
