Overview
On November 30, the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) celebrated its 40th Anniversary with an Awards Gala in Chicago, Illinois. During the last four decades, PILI, an organization dedicated to cultivating and improving the awareness of public interest law and pro bono service within Illinois, has left a major impression on the local legal community.
At the Gala the following awards were presented to outstanding members within the community
- Distinguished PILI Intern Almni Award - Susan L. DeCostanza
- Distinguished PILI Fellow Alumni Award - Brij B. Patnaik
- Pro Bono Initiative Award - McDermott Will & Emery LLP
- Distinguished Public Service Award - Bernard H. Shapiro
Barack Ferrazzano is proud to have one of their own on the executive board for PILI as Sarah Bernstein — Co-Chair of the Firm's Motor Vehicle Group and former Co-Chair of the Pro Bono Committee — currently serves as Vice President. Sarah uses her involvement with PILI to lead by example, engaging in pro bono work and encouraging other to do so through advocating for legals services for those in need.
About PILI
Public Interest Law Initiative is recognized as a national leader in the funding of law students in the public interest law sector and has expanded beyond the Chicagoland area, placing interns and fellows throughout the state of Illinois while working to amplify pro bono participation, including spearheading a Pro Bono Week effort that engaged nearly 400 lawyers and judges statewide.
