Robert Fleetwood, Partner, Barack Ferrazzano
Rob is co-chair of the Firm’s Financial Institutions Group, which is one of the largest in the nation serving community and regional banks, representing 250+ financial institutions. In 2019 the group was ranked #1 in the Midwest and #3 in the U.S. by announced bank and thrift M&A transactions (20 M&A transactions; $1B+ deal value). The group has also been ranked #1 in the Midwest and #4 in the U.S. (125+ M&A transactions; $6.5B+ deal value) over the past decade.
John Behringer, Partner, RSM US LLP
John is the national financial institutions consulting practice leader and leads the Great Lakes financial institutions practice working with clients ranging in size from $100 million to over $100 billion. He has over 20 years of public accounting experience working specifically with commercial banks, both privately and publicly held, de novo institutions, mortgage banks, investment companies, and broker dealers. John focuses on providing advisory and risk management consulting services to commercial banks. He has extensive experience providing internal and external audit services, loan review, and credit administration risk management services. These services include SEC, Sarbanes-Oxley, and FDICIA reporting issues, internal controls implementation, and ongoing compliance services.
John Geiringer, Partner, Barack Ferrazzano
John leads the Financial Institutions Group’s regulatory practice at Barack Ferrazzano. He is a well-known banking attorney who handles regulatory compliance and enforcement issues for banks across the country. John is a Vice Chairman of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Banking Law, and previously served as the Chairman of its Enforcement, Insider Liability and Troubled Banks Subcommittee, and its Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Subcommittee.
Dean Apostolopoulos, Partner, RSM US LLP
Dean focuses on providing attest and consulting services to financial services companies. He concentrates on working with community banks, credit unions, specialty finance and leasing companies, domestic and offshore investment partnerships, fund of funds, and investment advisors. Dean has over 15 years of experience in public accounting. Dean serves both public registrants and private entities. Over the course of his career, he has been involved with both initial public and secondary offerings.
Lynne D. Mapes-Riordan, Partner, Barack Ferrazzano
Lynne is co-chair of the Compensation & Employment Group. She concentrates her practice in employment and labor law, employee benefits, and executive compensation. Her practice has provided her with a breadth of experience in all aspects of a company's relationships with its executives and other employees, including executive employment, severance, and compensation agreements and arrangements. She regularly advises clients on the tax law and ERISA requirements of tax-qualified retirement plans and represents clients before the IRS and DOL in connection with tax-qualified plans.
John K. Freechack Jr., Managing Director, Piper Sandler
John K. Freechack is a Managing Director in Piper Sandler's Financial Services Investment Banking Group. With over 15 years of financial institutions experience as both an investment banker and a commercial banker, John brings extensive knowledge of the regional and community bank sector. He concentrates on M&A and capital raising in the banking sector, primarily in the upper Midwest, and has completed more than 50 transactions totaling over $4 billion in deal value. John joined Piper Sandler in October 2015 from River Branch Capital LLC. Prior to joining River Branch in March 2013, John worked in the Investment Banking Group at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods. John previously worked for a regional commercial bank where he was involved in acquisitions, finance, and lending.
Stanley F. Orszula, Partner, Barack Ferrazzano
Stan has extensive experience providing strategic counsel to banks on compliance and regulatory issues, general banking corporate matters, government lending, secured lending, distressed loans and assets, failed bank receiverships, FinTech agreements and partnerships, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS). Stan's background includes experience as a counsel with the FDIC, sitting on the board of a financial institution, and representing banks in private practice for 15+ years. He has gained a unique perspective which banks rely on to navigate today's complex regulatory environment and in implementing new technology, products, and services.
